We Will Rock You: "A show you won't soon forget." March 9-11

Our drama students are closing in on their final week of rehearsals before their performance of "We Will Rock You" -- a musical inspired by the legendary music of Queen -- but they are more excited than nervous.

Accompanied by a professional orchestra, student actors will hit the stage on March 9-11, sharing the story of two revolutionaries as they try to save rock 'n' roll. It's a post- apocalyptic world where all expression of creativity is banned. Along with a group of rebels, the heroes strive to discover the lost music and bring down the super power corporation Globalsoft. The audience goes on an exciting journey with the rebel's quest to take down the head of the corporation and send the power of rock around the world to free the masses.

“It’s a menagerie of classic Queen, sci-fi and rebellion,” said sophomore Seda Tuncok, of Amesbury, who portrays Brit, a character modeled after Britney Spears.

The performance will include more than 24 of Queen’s biggest hit songs, including "We Are The Champions," "Under Pressure," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Another One Bites The Dust" and the musical's namesake, "We Will Rock You."

“It’s a unique take on songs everyone knows,” said senior Rachel Bevelaqua, of Merrimac, who plays the lead in the show. "The story is probably one most people have never seen.”

The Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 shows open at 7 p.m., and Sunday’smatinee begins at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are available for $8 in the school store. Tickets at the door cost $10.

“It’s a show you won’t soon forget," said senior Kourin Breen, of Methuen, who is performing in her fourth Whittier play. She will play Paul McCartney.
