The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 4 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 4 of the 2024-2025 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Grade 9 student Peyton Jaber, from Haverhill, was nominated by Math instructor Ms. Letendre.
Peyton Jaber has shown dedication and effort the entire school year, earning an A+ every quarter. She is thoughtful and thorough, and often goes above and beyond to challenge herself and deepen her understanding. Her strong critical thinking skills and perseverance help her to tackle new problems. Peyton has spent many hours outside of our classroom mastering extra concepts to prepare for her move to honors math next year. She is attentive, respectful, self-motivated and truly a model for her peers. Peyton’s future is bright and I am excited to see what great things she achieves here at Whittier Tech and after!
Grade 10 student Olivia Materkowski, from Amesbury, was nominated by Math instructor Ms. McDonald.
Olivia has been an outstanding math student all year, but in Term 4 she truly excelled, earning a 99% overall average and a perfect score on the final exam. She is a dedicated and hardworking student who always puts forth her best effort. When she encounters challenges, she takes initiative and uses opportunities like retakes to improve her performance. Beyond her academic achievements, Olivia is exceptionally kind and works well with her classmates. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and sets a positive example for others. Olivia is a role model and a true pleasure to have in class. I wish all my students were like her!
Grade 11 student Ashley Potvin, from Haverhill was nominated by Math instructor Mr. Hayes.
It’s my pleasure to recognize Ashley for her outstanding achievement in math this year. Throughout the course of Algebra 3, Ashley has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication and a strong work ethic. Her determination to succeed was evident both in and out of the classroom. Ashley not only earned an impressive A+ for the year, but she also took initiative—frequently reaching out with thoughtful questions and putting in the extra time to truly understand challenging concepts. Her perseverance and genuine curiosity set a great example for her peers, and it's clear that her success is the result of hard work and a deep commitment to learning. Congratulations, Ashley!
