Congrats

On November 13, Whittier Tech proudly recognized 77 members of the Class of 2026 who earned the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship.

The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a merit-based award that provides a tuition credit for up to eight semesters of undergraduate education at any Massachusetts state college or university. Recipients earn this distinction based on their outstanding performance on the 10th-grade Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) exams.

The purpose of the scholarship is to:

  • Reward and inspire academic achievement;

  • Encourage high-performing students to pursue their education within Massachusetts public higher education institutions; and

  • Provide families with valuable financial support toward college tuition.

To qualify, students must:

  • Score in the Advanced category on one of the three high school MCAS tests (English Language Arts, Mathematics, or Science and Technology/Engineering);

  • Score in the Proficient or Advanced category on the remaining two tests; and

  • Have a combined score that ranks in the top 25% of their school district.

Although the MCAS is no longer a graduation requirement, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) continues to require districts to administer the assessment for accountability purposes, but also because of the opportunities it creates for students, including eligibility for this distinguished scholarship.

Whittier Tech congratulates all the students whose hard work and academic excellence have earned them this honor!
