The Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) has officially invited Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School (Whittier Tech) into the Eligibility Phase of its school construction grant program, effective August 1, 2025. The invitation follows a successful Statement of Interest submitted by Whittier Tech and signals the start of a formal process that could result in a future building project to address Whittier Tech’s long-term facility needs.
Superintendent Maureen Lynch expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized the significance of this milestone. “We are thrilled to be officially welcomed into the Eligibility Phase by the MSBA,” Lynch said. “This is a major step forward not only for Whittier Tech, but for the entire region. It affirms the strength of our collective vision and the importance of preparing our facilities for the future of career and technical education. I’m grateful for the support of our 11 cities and towns and look forward to working together on this important project.”
Regional Support and Next Steps
To reach this milestone, Whittier Tech was required to demonstrate strong regional support. All 11 cities and towns in the district signed letters affirming their support for Whittier Tech’s participation in the MSBA process. This unified commitment reflects the shared priority across the region to invest in the future of workforce education.
A regional Working Group composed of representatives from all 11 communities continues to meet regularly to guide the district’s planning efforts. This collaborative approach reflects a shared commitment to modernizing Whittier Tech’s educational facilities in service to current and future students.
The next step in the MSBA process, expected in early fall 2025, will be the establishment of a formal School Building Committee. This committee will include representatives from Whittier Tech, the Whittier Tech School Committee, and each of the district’s member municipalities. Once formed, the committee will lead the district’s efforts in partnership with the MSBA to explore potential project options.
