Math Students of The Term for Term 3

The Whittier Tech Math Department is pleased to share the Term 3 Students of the Term! Each student received a certificate “for exemplary effort and achievement in the area of Mathematics for Term 3 of the 2024-2025 school year.” The certificates were signed by the student’s Math teacher and the Math Cluster Chair, Ms. McDonald. The goal of the Math Department is to showcase students’ outstanding math growth and achievement on a quarterly basis by selecting one student from every grade, once a term, to be recognized in their mathematics classroom.

Grade 9 students Sean Sicard and Ezequiel Jimenez, both from Haverhill, were nominated by Math instructor Mr. McDormand.

During Quarter 3, two students in the same section have exemplified the qualities of a Whittier Tech Student of the Term. Both Sean and Ezequiel diligently complete their classwork every day and demonstrate excellence on exams. However, both students go above and beyond in their own unique ways. Ezequiel, preparing for a move to Honors level classes next year, has shouldered additional work and shown early excellence. Sean finishes his work each day while also finding time to help his classmates when they struggle. Not only is he a willing teacher but is also incredibly effective. Congratulations to Sean and Ezequiel on being Grade 9 Math Students of The Term.

Grade 10 student Annikka Deome, from Haverhill, was nominated by Math instructor Mr. Tashjian.

I am nominating Annikka for Grade 10 math student of the term for Term 3. Throughout the year, she has been a model student in the classroom. She asks great questions, is an active participant during class discussions, and is amongst the hardest working students that I have this school year. Often, she will go above and beyond what is asked of her to complete because she wants to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts being taught in class. As a result of her hard work, she has earned an A+ for quarter three. I am confident that she will continue to work hard and excel as a student at Whittier in both her academic classes and vocational area. Thank you for being an excellent student! Congratulations Annikka!

Grade 11 student Aiden van Twuyver, from Georgetown, was nominated by Mrs. Kastrinelis.

I am recommending Aiden van Twuyver for the Term 3 Math Student of the month based on his resilience, perseverance and ability to overcome significant obstacles to reach success. Aiden was out placed during most of Term 2 and upon his return he immediately set about catching up the Term 2 work that he had missed as well as keeping up with the current Term 3 work. Aiden approached each request that I placed before him with thoughtful consideration and worked diligently to complete all required tasks for Term 2. As a result, Aiden was able to secure an "A" for Term 2 and is closing Term 3 with a B+. Aiden serves as a role model for any student who may feel overwhelmed when they fall behind. Aiden's "can do attitude" and his innate strength in mathematics enabled Aiden to accomplish what I thought might be an impossible feat---to recover his grade for Term 2 while still keeping up with the requirements for Term 3.

Grade 12 student Kellin Murphy, from Haverhill, was nominated by Math instructor Mr. Madden.

Kellin is a wonderful student and a pleasure to have in Honors Statistics. She has a great work ethic and shows an interest in mastering math skills that are proven by her A+ average for the year. She is open minded and empathetic, and is always open to helping others around her. Kellin will absolutely continue her success as a student and person as she moves on to nursing school.
