Our float captures First Place -- Most Original/Creative in Sunday’s parade

Keeping with a long-held Whittier tradition, our parade was crowned First Place -- Most Original/Creative in the Annual VFW Santa Parade in Haverhill yesterday. Judges viewed the float before the parade, marveling at its three snow globes — one with a giant metal bell inside, the second with fluttering angel wings and a third with a grand penguin surrounded by dozens of smaller ones. Many of the thousands of parade goers that lined the streets cheered on the Wildcat rendition of Miracle on Merrimack Street as it rolled by.

“The students are the heart of this float,” said Art Teacher Celine Soucy. “Without them, it would not happen.” She credited all of the students and their vocational technical instructors that put the pieces together: Carpentry, Electrical, Graphics, Plumbing, Metal Fabrication, and Robotics.

The Whittier float will be featured in the Merrimac Holiday Parade on Dec. 2nd.
