✨ Alumni Connection: Rob Simard, Carpentry, Class of 2010 From job sites across the Merrimack Valley to his hometown of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Rob Simard successfully transitioned into the role of Gas & Oil Associate with Simard Gas & Oil after completing the Carpentry program at Whittier Tech. His path brought technical knowledge into a thriving family business and helped him establish financial independence early in adulthood. Rob reflects on how Whittier shaped his future: “My education from Whittier allowed me to successfully transition into working for my family’s successful gas and oil business. As a result of my dedication, I was able to purchase my first home at a young age.” The experience illustrates how career and technical education can open doors close to home and support meaningful life milestones such as home ownership and community roots. #WeAreWhittierTech

Due to inclement weather and travel concerns, Whittier Tech will have a 2-hour delayed opening today, Wednesday, January 7th. Homeroom will begin at 9:43 a.m. and end at 10:00 a.m. Students and staff will start the school day with Period 4 and will then follow the regular school schedule for the remainder of the day. Please stay safe.

Our CAD Drafting students were busy this past December bringing creativity and compassion beyond the classroom. Senior Melanie Gomez used the Epilog laser to design the tree topper for the Whittier Tech tree featured at the Seabrook Festival of Trees. Seniors Emanuelle Portes and Jayda Jatoba introduced the Forever Home Keepsake Initiative, creating laser cut wooden ornaments to celebrate pet adoptions and honor dedicated shelter volunteers while applying real world skills in vector design, modeling, and fabrication. Students also attended Precast Day with Shea Concrete, experiencing firsthand the equipment and engineering excellence behind precast manufacturing, another example of how Whittier Tech students put learning into action to strengthen community connections.

What better way to wrap up learning before break than by stepping into future careers?

Mrs. Nichols, Whittier Tech’s technology specialist, brought virtual reality into Ms. Desberg’s English 11 classroom, giving students a firsthand look at a day in the life of professionals including certified nursing assistants, electricians, livestock handlers, transport helicopter pilots, truck drivers, and more.

This immersive experience supported the class’s current career unit, helping students make meaningful connections between their interests, skills, and real-world career pathways.

Today, Whittier Tech welcomed guest speaker Rachel Bucher, an Amesbury resident, who shared her personal journey with the Peace Corps during an engaging presentation and student Q&A. Ms. Bucher introduced students to the mission and work of the Peace Corps, explained how she began her service journey, and discussed her current assignment in Lesotho. She also shared insights into the culture, food, and traditions of the region, offering students a meaningful global perspective. Fun fact: Rachel is one of Elaine Bucher’s daughters. Elaine is a Whittier Tech English instructor and Drama Club advisor. #WeAreWhittierTech #WorkingOnYourFuture

What an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience for our HVACR students at TD Garden. Students explored the systems that keep the arena cool, comfortable, and the ice frozen solid, from the ice surface and mechanical rooms to catwalks and rooftops. This one-of-a-kind opportunity brought the HVACR industry to life and showcased real-world applications of their skills.

✨ Alumni Connection: Catherina Raia ’20, Medical Assisting ✨

From Whittier Tech’s Medical Assisting program to her work as a licensed massage therapist, Catherina Raia has turned her passion for helping others into a meaningful and healing-focused career. She currently practices at Namaste Spa in Danvers, specializing in prenatal and postnatal massage, as well as deep tissue therapy.

Reflecting on her journey, Catherina shares how Whittier helped shape her path and strengthen her belief in her calling:
“Whittier gave me the tools, knowledge, and confidence to pursue a career where I can help others heal. I always knew I wanted to make a difference, and Whittier helped me believe I truly could.”
