Now in his eighth year at Whittier Tech, Mr. Gerber values the endless opportunities available to students across every shop. No matter the pathway they choose, he believes Whittier Tech opens doors that help students discover their interests, build skills, and grow with confidence.
A fun fact that speaks to his hands-on spirit. Mr. Gerber and his wife are first-generation farmers.
His advice for students is simple and empowering. "Say yes to every opportunity Whittier Tech has to offer. The worst thing that can happen is that you learn something new."
We are grateful for the guidance, expertise, and encouragement Mr. Gerber brings to his students each day.

Chris Nadeau, a 2023 Electrical graduate from Haverhill, is building his future in the energy industry as a truck driver with Broco Energy. Through hands on learning and real world experience at Whittier Tech, Chris discovered his passion for skilled trades and found purpose in serving his community through essential work.
Today, he takes pride in being part of an industry that keeps homes and businesses running, while continuing to live out the values he developed during his time at Whittier.
Chris reflects on how Whittier continues to shape his future:
“Whittier Tech helped me realize how much I love the workforce and working in a skilled trade. There will always be a need for people providing essential services, and Whittier gave me the opportunity to do something meaningful. I am always ready to give back and help when people need it most. Whittier taught me that kindness matters. Help first, ask questions later.”

The Wildcat Cycle Build is a student-driven custom motorcycle build-off that brings together students from Metal Fabrication/Welding, Auto Body, Automotive Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, and CAD Drafting. Working as a cross-disciplinary team, students are customizing a donated motorcycle from concept to completion, applying real-world skills in design, engineering, fabrication, and assembly. The build must be completed by late May/early June in time for Bike Week, where it will be voted on by the public.
Fittingly, our bike is proudly named “Bring Back the Trades.” The build features custom components representing every participating shop, symbolizing the collaboration, craftsmanship, and technical excellence across our CTE programs.
Steve’s mission aligns perfectly with this work. As he shared: “I started this campaign as a small business owner with 30 years of experience in the trade… I’ve witnessed firsthand the growing challenge of finding skilled workers… At Bring Back the Trades, Inc., we are on a mission to ignite a movement that raises awareness of the incredible opportunities in the skilled trades, which form the backbone of America’s economy.”
With the support of industry partners, alumni, and dedicated staff advisors, projects like this give our Wildcats authentic, hands-on experience and spotlight the power and promise of careers in the skilled trades.
Thank you, Steve, for believing in our students and helping us bring the trades back...one build at a time! 🐾🔧

Whittier Tech juniors from Newburyport were excited to return to Nock Middle School for a second week of the Clippers Talk presentation. Nicole Daigle (CAD), Max Cattan (Electronics), and Kaylee Keegan (Medical) were joined by Austin Sachetti (HVAC) as they shared their career pathways and firsthand experiences with sixth-grade students from their former middle school.
It was a meaningful opportunity for students to reflect on their own journeys while inspiring the next generation to start thinking about their future possibilities.

Paul has been part of the Whittier Tech community since the 1997–1998 school year and will retire at the end of this year after 29 years of service. Over the years, he has worn many hats. Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Machine Technology Instructor for 23 years, Cooperative Education Coordinator, and now in his sixth year as a Vocational, Technical, and Cooperative Education Coordinator.
What Paul values most about Whittier Tech is the opportunity it gives students to build real futures. Students can learn a trade, enter the workforce, and also earn college-accredited coursework if they choose. That access matters deeply to Paul, whose own path to higher education required years of hard work, long hours, and persistence. His story is one he proudly shares because it reflects what determination, grit, and work ethic can accomplish.
Outside of school, Paul’s interests are as hands-on as his career. Blacksmithing, boating, beaching, collecting iron, wood, and bronze figurines, firing up his wood-burning pizza oven, and teaching his grandsons the “Ways of the Musk.” And if you have ever heard whistling in the halls, chances are you have already met Paul.
Paul believes deeply in giving back and living with purpose. He often reminds students that hard work builds self-worth, discipline builds habits, and habits build growth. His advice is simple and powerful. Never doubt yourself. Get out on co-op early. Learn what it feels like to be paid for the skills you have earned. And remember that where you are a year from now is shaped by the choices you make today.
Paul has always given his best to his students. Sometimes with tough love. Always with their best interests at heart.
As Paul prepares for retirement, we thank him for nearly three decades of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the power of vocational education.
