Students in Whittier Tech's Evening Education 1,000-Hour Cosmetology Program are now in month six of their training journey. Since beginning the program in January 2026, students have been developing their knowledge and hands-on skills through a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare them for the Massachusetts Cosmetology State Board Exam.
As they continue progressing through the program, students are now exploring color techniques and expanding their cosmetology skill set.

Five months of hard work, dedication, and hands-on learning led to a well-earned celebration for participants in the Whittier Tech and Community Action Inc. of Haverhill MassSTEP ESOL Welding Program.
Made possible through MassSTEP grant funding, participants completed intensive training in Basic Welding at Whittier Tech while also strengthening their English language skills through contextualized instruction. This unique combination of technical and language education helped prepare students for entry-level welding careers, with many already securing employment with local organizations.
Congratulations to the graduates of the January-May 2026 cohort on this outstanding achievement. We wish them continued success as they build rewarding careers in the skilled trades.

Since January 2001, Culinary Arts Instructor Tjitse Boringa has been shaping the next generation of chefs in both the bakery and the kitchen. Over the years, what has stood out most is not just the skill development, but the growth he sees in his students each day.
For Mr. Boringa, the experience at Whittier Tech has been defined by the people. Working alongside a supportive team and watching students evolve has made his time here both meaningful and rewarding.
Originally from The Netherlands, Mr. Boringa moved to Switzerland at 18 before eventually settling in the United States in 1984, where he met his wife and built his life and career.
Known by students and colleagues as “the quote guy,” one of his favorites reflects the values he brings into the classroom every day:
“Character is how you behave when no one is watching.”

Grade 9 Biology MCAS testing will take place on Tuesday, June 2, and Wednesday, June 3.

From the creative world of Design & Visual Communications to the stage as a performing musician, Gino Figliola is blending visual storytelling and music in exciting ways.
A member of the Whittier Tech Class of 2024, Gino currently performs with the Kevin James Graham Band while studying Music Performance full time at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Reflecting on his experience at Whittier Tech, Gino shared:
“I am very grateful to have attended Whittier Tech because I have used graphic design as a creative tool in my music career and while studying music at UMass Lowell, such as creating a website, flyers, and editing videos/photos, since visual arts are closely related to music arts.”
The creative skills Gino developed in Design & Visual Communications continue to play an important role in building his music career, from branding and promotion to digital content creation.

Academic and vocational departments recognized seniors who demonstrated outstanding skill, leadership, dedication, and perseverance throughout their time at Whittier Tech. Students were honored with distinguished recognitions including the MassCTE Presidential Certificate of Merit, the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy, the Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors of Massachusetts Certificate of Recognition, and WREA Scholarships.
As we prepare for graduation tonight, we couldn’t be more proud of this remarkable class and all they have accomplished. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat ❤️💛
