Did you know?! Whittier is currently collaborating with Haverhill Community Action Inc. to provide a Welding ESOL evening education program through MassSTEP grant funding. Ten individuals are working hard five nights per week on a combination of skills, including contextualized English, employability, and welding. These adult students are showing up week after week and will wrap up in May, and will be looking for entry-level employment opportunities in the field of welding. Pictured here, you will see Instructor Chris Gerber giving a lesson on plasma cutting. The primary class instructors include Josh Merrill and Paul Webber. Keep up the great work, evening education welders! We know you will finish out the program strong.

A slightly delayed release… thanks to a few snow days ❄️ and February break doing their thing. But good journalism takes time (and apparently a few snow shovels), and our Journalism Club students worked hard to put together another great issue!
Check out the latest stories, features, and student voices in the February edition of The Wildcat. Great job to our talented student writers and advisor for making it happen! ❤️💛

As a reminder, all vehicles must remain in a single lane when entering the morning drop off area. Please do not pass other vehicles or form additional lanes. Staying in one lane helps ensure a smooth flow of traffic and, most importantly, keeps our students safe.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in creating a safe start to each school day.

This week, we are proud to recognize John Lavigne, a Grade 11 Carpentry instructor at Whittier Tech who has been part of the Wildcat community for 12 years.
John shared that what he values most about Whittier Tech is the people. From his coworkers and students to the administration, he describes it as a truly great place to work.
Fun fact: John enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and wife. He loves winter sports, including snowmobiling, skiing, and ice hockey. During the summer, you will likely find him striper fishing or enjoying time at the beach.
Advice for students: Work hard and find a career you are passionate about.
Thank you, John, for your dedication to our students and to the Carpentry program.

Grade 9 morning students recently took on a real shop project after two new welding demo booths were installed. Additional exhaust was needed, so under the guidance of Mr. Palmer, students drafted plans for a custom hood, then cut, bent, and assembled copper and brass to bring it to life.
They followed with precise measurements for the ductwork, rounding, beading, and crimping galvanized metal before seamlessly connecting the finished system.
From the blueprint to installation, this demonstrates hands-on learning.

Audrey Byerley, a 2016 Cosmetology graduate from Haverhill, has built a career focused on guiding others toward their futures. She now serves as Assistant Director of Career Development and Outcomes at Merrimack College, where she supports students as they explore career paths and prepare for life after graduation.
Audrey’s experiences at Whittier Tech helped her recognize the value of starting early and discovering a clear direction. Today, she continues that mission by helping students identify their goals and build confidence as they prepare for their own careers.
Audrey reflects on how Whittier helped shape her future:
“Going to a vocational school showed me how important it is to get a head start in your career. My experiences at Whittier helped me realize I want to help other students find and prepare for their careers, just like Whittier helped me prepare.”
