In Metal Fabrication, our first-year students are already making their mark.
Grade 9 morning students recently took on a real shop project after two new welding demo booths were installed. Additional exhaust was needed, so under the guidance of Mr. Palmer, students drafted plans for a custom hood, then cut, bent, and assembled copper and brass to bring it to life.
They followed with precise measurements for the ductwork, rounding, beading, and crimping galvanized metal before seamlessly connecting the finished system.
From the blueprint to installation, this demonstrates hands-on learning.

✨ Alumni Connection: Audrey Byerley, Cosmetology, Class of 2016 ✨
Audrey Byerley, a 2016 Cosmetology graduate from Haverhill, has built a career focused on guiding others toward their futures. She now serves as Assistant Director of Career Development and Outcomes at Merrimack College, where she supports students as they explore career paths and prepare for life after graduation.
Audrey’s experiences at Whittier Tech helped her recognize the value of starting early and discovering a clear direction. Today, she continues that mission by helping students identify their goals and build confidence as they prepare for their own careers.
Audrey reflects on how Whittier helped shape her future:
“Going to a vocational school showed me how important it is to get a head start in your career. My experiences at Whittier helped me realize I want to help other students find and prepare for their careers, just like Whittier helped me prepare.”
