Junior Cosmetology students recently attended a color theory seminar at the American Institute of Haircolor in Londonderry, New Hampshire. National Education Director Tony Difria provided professional instruction on advanced hair-coloring techniques, including ammonia-driven cream hair color, clarifying methods, and a detailed overview of the ingredients used in the All Nutrient color line.
This hands-on learning experience strengthened students’ technical knowledge and provided valuable industry insight as they continue preparing for careers in cosmetology.

Meet Kathy Kastrinelis, a Whittier Tech math teacher who has spent 22 years helping students build confidence, problem-solving skills, and belief in their own potential.
A career transfer from her previous role as a Rate Economist at Boston Edison, Kathy found her calling in the classroom. She credits Whittier students for continually inspiring her and takes great pride in watching them grow and succeed long after graduation. Her advice to students is simple and powerful: reach for your dreams and trust the skills you’ve gained here to carry you forward in any career path.
Outside the classroom, Kathy is well known for her love of tennis. She competes on multiple USTA travel teams throughout the year and often runs into former students at Cedardale, moments she says always make her smile.
At the end of this school year, Kathy will retire from Whittier Tech. While it was a difficult decision, she looks forward to traveling and continuing her “semi-professional” tennis journey. Her impact on students and colleagues alike will be felt for years to come.
Thank you, Kathy, for 22 years of dedication to the Whittier Tech community. 💙

Members of the Multicultural Club, under the guidance of advisor Mrs. DiMauro, continued a heartfelt tradition by creating handmade Valentine’s Day cards for Whittier Tech’s custodial staff. Knowing many members of the custodial team speak Spanish, students thoughtfully wrote every message in Spanish, making each card even more personal and meaningful.
Students had a wonderful time creating the cards and were proud to present them today, sharing appreciation, gratitude, and kindness with the team who helps keep our school running every day.

Grade 9 Biology students in Mrs. Holmes’ and Mrs. Ihle’s classes recently took part in a hands on anatomy lab as part of their current unit of study. Through observation, exploration, and guided learning, students examined body systems, made connections to human anatomy, and strengthened their understanding of how living organisms function. Engaged and focused throughout the experience, students embraced the opportunity to learn by doing.
